Project Overview

Greyam Irrigation Technologies partnered with the Masindi Cooperative Union to deliver a reliable, off-grid irrigation solution to support over 70 smallholder coffee farmers. Drawing from a natural spring in the highlands of Masindi, the system was engineered to use gravitational force to deliver water to farms without the need for pumps or electricity — making it cost-effective, low-maintenance, and ideal for rural terrain.

System Components:

Spring intake and sedimentation unit

Dual-stage filtration for safe irrigation

Elevated steel water storage tanks (10,000 L capacity each)

HDPE distribution pipeline network spanning 3.5 km

Farm-level manual valves and water control points

“Before this system, we could only irrigate close to the water source. Now even the upper farms receive water easily. This has changed how we farm.”
Mr. Luwemba Patrick, Coffee Farmer & Coop Member

Results

100% fuel-free irrigation for all connected farmers

Improved water reliability during dry seasons

Expanded production area by 35% due to stable water access

Lower operational costs and zero recurring energy expenses
